Alberta 55 plus
Alberta 55 plus was the first organization of its kind anywhere. Since its inception, five other provinces and fifty states have organized along similar lines.
The Alberta 55 plus believes that every individual 55 years of age and over has the fundamental right to the opportunity for enrichment, fulfillment, and improved quality of life and health through a broad variety of recreation, sports, and organized games. Alberta 55+ provides a unified voice and a sociable atmosphere for older adults to engage in physical and other activities at the level of their choice.
Alberta 55 plus, an autonomous provincial sport body, has established zone boards in each of the eight zones in the province. These zone boards are headed by senior volunteers who promote, develop and organize "grass roots" playoff activities leading to the Alberta Seniors Games, the zone games in the Games off years and to the Canada Senior Games. They encourage the senior population of Alberta to participate in sport and recreational development, not only for these Games, but also throughout the year. Through participation, the mental and physical health of seniors is enhanced. As a result seniors enjoy a healthier life and are less of a burden on health care costs and social services.
Our Zone within Alberta is Zone 4. Each zone is broken into areas with a volunteer director responsible for communication with the mbers of their area. The City of Camrose as well as the County of Camrose (Area 7, within Zone 4) is the responsibility of Director, Rosella Snopek of Camrose. Contact # is (780) 608-1391 or email rfsnopek@telus.net.

SPECIAL 25TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY
April 6th was a very special day for the Camrose Senior Floor Curling Club. This being the 25th year of Club curling in Camrose. A special dinner and program was held in the Auditorium. A number of former members of the Club where in attendance and spoke of the organizing of the Club and where the first curling games where held. Some told of the making of the rocks and how they have improved over the years. (better designed handles and sanded rocks) Our members brought information of the beginning of the Club. She has been a member for 25 years and is still an active member today. After the cutting of the anniversary cake, Mayor Mastel threw the first rock to start the 26th year. The Floor Curling Club in Camrose has 60 active members. Guest Speakers gave information on forming of Club play. These same people were also instrumental in giving us the rules and a reliable and well written Constitution that is well respected today.
The Club thanked all the special guests for their pioneering work that made the game what is is today. Thanks ......Ole Lundle
CARPET BOWLING CLUB
Carpet Bowling takes place every Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Carpet bowling is played on a thick felt carpet, 6' wide by 36" long. There are eight black and eight brown bowls and a small white ball called the 'jack'. The bowls are not completely round but slightly flattened on two opposite sides and weighted to create a curve when the bowl is thrown. The amount of curve is governed by how fast or how slow the bowl is thrown and how much carpet is used(similar to ice-curling), and the amount of floor required to reach the target. The target is the 'jack' which is thrown to reach the upper third of the carpet. The team which bowls closest to the jack counts in that end. We usually play two eight-end games per morning.
We are a small friendly group and it only costs $3.00 per afternoon. We enjoy the skill of carpet bowling and we would welcome new faces. We have three carpets available for play at each gathering. Contact: Alice Britton at 780-672-5132 .

"The Cam-Roses"
We formed our group in 2005 and on August 28, 2010, we will be celebrating our 6th Annual Garden Party. This event has always sold out, with over 250 ladies attending. This year, we are inviting the new Canadian Crown Jewels to join us in our celebration of friendship.
We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Card Room at Mirror Lake Centre. There is no charge to join our group, but you must be a member of the Camrose and District Senior Society. The Senior Society membership is only $15.00 per year. "The Cam-Roses" are not a sorority or a service club, although we are not adverse to giving a helping hand when needed. Our main objective is to form a sisterhood where we can support one another in times of trouble or distress and lighten our lives with light hearted fun. We love teas, fashion shows, theatre or just going out for lunch or dinner. We are often invited to parties or gatherings with chapters from other towns or cities. Members must wear purple attire and red hats to all functions. This is our only rule! We do ask that you attend our monthly meetings so you are aware of the "happenings" but then you only go to the functions you choose. There are no obligations and no membership fees in in this dis-organization. You pay only $3.00 each month at our gathering and $2.50 of this amount goes to help support our Senior Society and 50 cents goes into our kitty for coffee supplies, etc. After that, you just pay for the function you wish to attend and car-pooling. You are most welcome to come to our meeting, have coffee with us and see what we are all about.
